Key Responsibilities

As a Care Home Chef, your responsibilities may include:

• Preparing and cooking nutritious meals in line with residents’ dietary requirements, preferences and individual health needs.

• Preparing specialist diets, including soft diets, texture-modified meals, allergen-free meals and meals for specific dietary or cultural requirements.
• Supporting menu planning and adaptation to meet residents’ nutritional needs.
• Managing kitchen operations, including stock control, food storage, ingredient ordering and waste management where required.
• Maintaining excellent kitchen cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout every shift.
• Working closely with care home staff to ensure meals are prepared and served according to residents’ needs and scheduled mealtimes.
• Maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation and portion control.
• Following all relevant allergen, HACCP, food hygiene and health and safety procedures.

Care Home Chef Requirements

• A minimum of 1 year of professional chef or catering experience.
• Previous experience working in a care home, nursing home, residential home, healthcare or school kitchen environment.
• A good understanding of special diets, allergens and nutritional requirements.
• Up-to-date Food Hygiene and Allergen Awareness certification.
• A valid DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for the appropriate DBS check.
• The ability to work confidently and independently within busy kitchen environments.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• A professional, reliable and flexible approach to work.
• The ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining high standards.
